 | Abstract 341 Water hyacinth as feed supplement for small animals.Solly,-RK; Singh,-D; Sharan,-V Sch. of Natural Resources, South Pacific Univ., Suva, Fiji. Proceedings of the international conference on water hyacinth [edited by Thyagarajan, G.]. 1984, 398-407; 12 ref. Nairobi, Kenya; United Nations Environment Programme. Supplements of Eichhornia crassipes in the commercial dry feed of pigs and rabbits did not markedly impair their rate of growth. The low growth rate of goats fed on grass alone was maintained when E. crassipes was included in the ration, but young ducklings responded unfavourably to the addition of chopped E. crassipes to their diet. New Zealand white rabbits fed a diet of coconut meal and E. crassipes showed liveweight conversion to dry food ratios of 0.25-0.35 and growth rates of 400-500 g/month approaching a liveweight of 2 kg when raised in a tropical environment. This abstract relates to the following species:Eichhornia crassipes
