From results of a trial with 441 male broilers it was concluded that sorghum (var. technicum) could be used successfully as the only cereal component of the diet. Chickens given diets with sorghum had higher weight gains than those given diets with maize, but feed conversion was better with maize. Health of chickens and sensory characteristics of meat were not affected in chickens given sorghum, but they had pale skin, legs and beaks.
