 | Abstract 477 Effect of feeding formaldehyde-treated groundnut-cake on the growth and nutrient utilization in Karan Swiss calves.Gupta,-NK; Gupta,-BN National Dairy Research Inst., Karnal, Haryana 132 001, India. Indian-Journal-of-Animal-Sciences. 1984, 54: 11, 1065-1068; 17 ref. Three groups of male calves were given for 96 days wheat straw to appetite and a control concentrate containing groundnut cake (GNC) 48.5 and maize 48.5% or the same but with half of the GNC treated with formaldehyde at 1 or 1.5 g/100 g protein. Crude protein digestibility was 64.7, 59.0 and 66.5% and daily nitrogen retention 28.1, 29.4 and 33.1 g, respectively. Feed efficiency ratios, digestibility of other constituents and body composition were not affected by the diet. It was concluded that treating GNC with HCHO, 1.5 g/100 g protein, improved efficiency of N utilization in the calves.
