Indian-Journal-of-Animal-Nutrition. 1989, 6: 3, 249-251; 10 ref. From 12 to 52 months old, 12 male Murrah buffalo calves, 116-122 kg, were fed on guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) meal (GM) + wheat straw ad libitum (group 1) or groundnut cake (GNC) + wheat straw ad libitum (group 2) to provide metabolizable energy 50:50 from concentrate and roughage. Blood luteinizing hormone (LH) concentration was higher in group 1 than group 2 from 36-41 months but at 50-52 months old LH in both groups was increased. Plasma testosterone concentration was higher in group 1 than group 2. At 50-52 months old, 3 out of 6 buffaloes in group 1 started giving ejaculates with motile sperms, but in group 2 no buffaloes gave semen. Results suggest a positive response in sperm motility, plasma LH and testosterone on feeding guar meal. This abstract relates to the following species:Arachis hypogaea, Arachis hypogaea, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba
