Five outbreaks of paspalum staggers occurred in the State during April and May 1982, due to ingestion of seed heads of Paspalum dilatatum and P. notatum infected with the fungus. About 13% of 992 cattle were affected and 18 (1.8%) died. Another 28 outbreaks probably occurred in the State at the same time. Poisoning was precipitated by drought.
