 | Abstract 74 Digestibility of detoxified castor meal and lucerne hay in sheep and metabolism of nitrogen fraction.Bose,-MLV; Wanderley,-R-da-C; CarvalheiraWanderley,-R-da Revista-da-Sociedade-Brasileira-de-Zootecnia. 1988, 17: 5, 456-464; 39 ref. During 3 successive 2-week periods 6 adult wethers, mean liveweight 41 kg, were given chopped lucerne hay 850, 750 or 650 g daily combined with, respectively, detoxified castor meal 0, 45 and 90 g. Diets were equal in energy and protein. Mean digestibility of DM and organic matter did not differ among treatments. Mean nitrogen balance over the 7-day collection period reached 20.67, 30.64 and 33.58 g, order of treatments as above, apparent biological value of protein 18.9, 26.4 and 29.7%, protein digestibility 71.1, 78.2 and 75.3% and energy digestibility 50.9, 52.9 and 52.2%. This abstract relates to the following species:Medicago sativa, Ricinus communis, Ricinus communis
