A large genus of over 300 species. Largest concentration in Mexico and Brazil and also E Asia. D. intortum and D. uncinatum most successful pasture legumes. D. heterocarpon in wet situations. Outyielded all other pasture legumes except D. intortum in Florida. In mixtures with Digitaria decumbens, Paspalum notatum and Setaria anceps, yielded 10 t DM/ha compared to 3 t/ha for grasses alone.
