Food waste

In village and peri-urban situations, kitchen waste is a valuable feed material for pigs and poultry. It is variable in composition depending on the source but can potentially provide a very satisfactory diet for monogastrics. One of the main problems is the risk of bacterial contamination, especially Salmonella. For this reason, it is normally cooked before feeding, ideally for at least one hour at 100 degrees C.
