Hemarthria altissima

Limpograss, Capim gamalote, Pasto Clavel, Gramilla canita, Baksha, Panisharu

A leafy grass which provides grazing and fodder much valued in S America, Australia, India and southern Africa. Sometimes grown from cuttings on seasonally wet soil. 2000 ha reported under cultivation in Florida 1970-71. Requires at least temporary wet ground but can withstand seasonal droughts.

Well grazed by cattle but, because of its prostrate habit, animals cannot fully utilize this high-quality grass. Particularly valuable for autumn and early dry-season grazing when other grasses are of low palatability and nutritive value.
