Two trials compared feeding value of tropically adapted maize with conventional temperate hybrid maize when used as the main energy source in diets of young, growing pigs, 7 to 25 kg. Pigs fed on diets containing tropical maize had rates of weight gain similar to pigs fed on normal maize diets, but required slightly more feed per unit of weight gain. The feed value of tropical maize was estimated to be 94% of that of normal maize.
