Diets containing 0, 8, 16, 24 and 32% niger (Guizotia abyssinica) oil cake (NOC) replacing groundnut oil cake, were given to 150 day-old male White Leghorn chicks for 6 weeks. NOC contained crude protein 36.36, ether extract 3.60, crude fibre 18.58, ash 8.17, calcium 0.68 and phosphorus 1.03% DM. With 32% NOC, growth was decreased which may have been due to the high crude fibre content of the diet. Feed efficiency was decreased with increasing dietary NOC. Blood profiles were unchanged by diet except cholesterol concentration which decreased with increasing dietary NOC, which may have been due to the high polyunsaturated fatty acid concentration of NOC.
