 | Abstract 232 Rumen metabolism studies in buffaloes fed solvent extracted and expeller crushed cotton seed cake.Sood,-R; Walli,-TK Division of Cattle Nutrition and Physiology, National Dairy Research Inst., Karnal-132001, India. Asian-Journal-of-Dairy-Research. 1986, 5: 2, 65-70; 11 ref. Four fistulated Murrah buffaloes were fed on 4 isonitrogenous concentrate mixtures containing groundnut cake, decorticated solvent-extracted cotton seed cake (CSC), decorticated expeller crushed and undecorticated expeller crushed CSC plus hay and wheat straw. Respective values in 100 ml rumen fluid were total volatile fatty acids 10.90, 9.90, 10.90 and 10.15 mEq, total N 66.3, 63.2, 49.4 and 43.4 mg, ammonia N 18.3, 16.4 10.8 and 8.0 mg and N precipitated with trichloroacetic acid 53.7, 61.6, 36.9 and 33.1 mg. In vivo protein degradability in 24 h by nylon bag technique was 89.0, 63.0 43.7 and 35.0%. A similar trend was observed for DM digestibility in vivo. Rumen volumes were 87.9, 137.4, 140.9 and 84.9 litres, respectively. This abstract relates to the following species:Gossypium spp
