For 150 days groups of 7 weaned lambs, initially 4-5 months old, were given diets equal in nitrogen and energy but containing autoclaved castor bean [Ricinus communis] meal (CBM) 0, 10, 20 or 30%. There were no significant differences among groups in nutrient digestibility, balances of nitrogen and calcium, weight gain (8.07, 7.85, 7/22 and 6.86 kg, respectively) and in feed and DM intakes. It was concluded that a ration containing 10% CBM could be used without any ill effect.
