Paris, France; INRA. Brahman cross steers were rotationally grazed for 29 days on pastures of Brachiaria decumbens, Cynodon nlemfuensis and Digitaria decumbens in SE Martinique in 1984-86. Av. pasture DM production was 1.94 t/ha in 1984-85 and 2.05 t in 1985-86 for each grazing cycle. Production was max. in Aug./Sep. then declined from Nov. C. nlemfuensis and B. decumbens outyielded D. decumbens in both years. B. decumbens had the highest energy value and C. nlemfuensis the highest protein content. Av. liveweight gains were 1.08 t/ha in 1984-85 and 1.13 t in 1985-86. This abstract relates to the following species:
