From the 3rd month of their 2nd lactation for 56 days 2 groups of 18 Italian Friesian cows were given complete liquid feeds based on maize silage without or with 2 kg whole cottonseed. Mean daily milk yield was 25.74 and 26.10 kg, milk protein 3.58 and 3.46, milk fat 3.71 and 3.59 and lactose 4.96 and 5.10%, respectively. Cottonseed increased stearic, oleic and linoleic acids in milk fat. Cheese-making suitability, estimated by thromboelastograph, was decreased. Energy balance was better in cows given cottonseed. Metabolizable energy value of cottonseed was 3.87 Mcal/kg DM.
