A total of 240 Dokki 4 and Plymouth Rock chickens were given to age 8 weeks cottonseed meal (CSM) 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25% in the diet. Weight gain, feed consumption and feed efficiency at 8 weeks of age decreased as free gossypol from CSM in ration increased. The chickens were able to tolerate 0.034% gossypol in the diet derived from 10% CSM without any adverse effect. Dokki 4 chickens were the more tolerant of free gossypol up to 0.051% from 15% CSM in the diet.
