Six Karan Swiss calves were given 2.63 kg mesta oilmeal (Hibiscus cannabinus) with 30 g mineral mixture daily for 45 days. Mesta oilmeal had DM 89.66, crude protein 24.93, ether extract 4.25, crude fibre 22.63, neutral detergent fibre 59.19, acid detergent fibre 38.43, acid detergent lignin 3.05, nitrogen-free extract 38.31 and total ash 9.88%. Digestibility was 45.65 ñ 1.41, 46.39 ñ 1.27, 72.52 ñ 2.52, 74.42 ñ 1.81, 18.09 ñ 2.45 and 42.77 ñ 2.59% for DM, organic matter, crude protein, ether extract, crude fibre and nitrogen-free extract, respectively. Mean initial liveweight was 92.16 kg and liveweight after the 5-day metabolism trial was 91.50 kg.
