Revista-del-Instituto-ColombianoAgropecuario. 1982, 17: 1, 29-36; 19 ref. A. gayanus pasture, established in Dec. 1979 and given 40 kg P2O5, 40 kg K2O and 250 kg dolomitic limestone/ha was continually grazed from June 1980 to June 1981 at a stocking rate of 2 cattle/ha. Grass samples were taken every 2 wk. Chemical composition of the grass changed during the yr with the greatest variations between the wet and dry seasons. In vivo digestibility and DE were low in both seasons. Linear and multiple regressions between CP, neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre (ADF) and lignin contents and DM digestibility indicated that CP, ADF and cellulose were the principal components affecting digestibility. The same trend was found with DE. This abstract relates to the following species:Andropogon gayanus
