The 6 cattle with a rumen cannula were given sugar cane tops freely with a supplement to bring the total intake of crude protein to 325 g/100 kg bodyweight daily, with meat-and-bone meal and urea providing crude protein in the proportion 2:3. The protein supplement was given with the minimum of molasses as a vehicle. Different cattle got waste green banana none or 0.388 to 1.889 kg DM/100 kg bodyweight daily, i.e., none or 21.6 to 70.7% of total intake of DM. Sugar cane top ground to 3 mm was left in the rumen in dacron bags for 6 to 120 h. Green banana more than 21.6% of total DM increased the period of slow digestion and decreased the potential degradation and digestibility rate of the sugar cane fibre in the rumen.
