 | Abstract 530 The effect on performance and the economic feasibility of substituting maize hominy for maize in tropical broiler diets.Chestnut,-AB; Laseinde,-EAO; Olumeyan,-DB College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Ahmadu Bello Univ., PMP 2132, Kaduna, Nigeria. Tropical-Animal-Production. 1983, 8: 4, 279-287; 6 ref. Broiler diet was of maize grain:commercial broiler concentrate 1:1, or maize hominy, a milling byproduct, replaced 1/3, 2/3 or all the maize grain. Replacing maize grain with hominy did not affect bodyweight gain but, owing to the lower energy content of hominy than of maize, feed efficiency was significantly poorer with hominy replacing all the maize, than with maize. Hominy could replace maize up to at least half the total diet without decreasing bodyweight gain. Replacement of maize with hominy was economically feasible when the price of maize hominy was 75% or less of the price of maize grain.
