Qualitas-Plantarum-Plant-Foods-forHuman-Nutrition. 1983, 33: 1, 91-97; 24 ref. The seeds contained 16.6% protein, 17.2% fat, 49.6% fibre and 3.0% ash on a dry weight basis, and 67.6 mg Na, 163 mg K, 16.2 mg Ca, 74.8 mg Mg, 152 mg P, 9.45 mg Fe, 1.45 mg Zn, 0.32 mg Cu and trace amounts of Mn per 100 g dry weight. The seeds provided 10-20% of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) of Mg, P, K, Zn and Cu per 100 g dry weight. The amount of Ca was less than 10% of the RDA for that element. Aspartic acid, glutamic acid, arginine and glycine were the most abundant amino acids. The seeds were rich in sulphur amino acids (methionine and cystine). Lysine was the most deficient amino acid. This abstract relates to the following species:Opuntia spp
