In central Brazil, elephant grass is the most widely used supplementary feed in the dry season; most of its herbage is produced in the wet season and this could be conserved as silage. 3 trials were carried out in 1979-80 to study the effect of additives applied at ensiling on quality (organic acids and pH), digestibility, intake and milk production. Of the preparations tested, CNPGL2 (molasses, urea and formic acid) improved the quality and nutritive value of the silage most.
