Castrated Black Bengal goats in groups of 4 each were given daily a basal ration of urea-treated rice straw 400 g and green grass 100 g plus sesame oil cake 50 g, sesame oil cake 50 g and mineral mixture 20 g, fish meal 20 g, or fish meal 20 g and mineral mixture 20 g. In another trial, 12 goats were given daily rice straw 400 g as the basal roughage plus green grass 100 g without supplements, or supplemented with sesame oil cake 50 g and mineral mixture 20 g, or fish meal 20 g plus mineral mixture 20 g. DM digestibility was higher with the urea-treated straw (39.84 to 67.05%) than with the untreated straw (30.31 to 50.87%). The supplementary mineral mixture significantly improved DM digestibility of both untreated and treated straw. Sesame oil cake and fish meal had variable effects on digestibility when untreated straw was given. This abstract relates to the following species:
