For 119 days 15 male Sahiwal calves, initially about 1 year old, were given to appetite
diets based on wheat bhoosa, cottonseed oilmeal, rice polishings and molasses, without
rapeseed oilmeal (RSM) or with RSM 7, 14, 20 or 27%, replacing cottonseed oilmeal on a
protein equivalent basis. All calves were given 1.5 kg green forage daily. Although there was
no significant difference in digestibility of DM, crude protein, crude fibre, ether extract and
nitrogen-free extract among treatments, it was concluded that RSM could only be used at up
to 7% without adversely affecting the growth rate and feed utilization of the calves.
