Animal Science, Michigan State Univ., East Lansing, Michigan 48824, USA. Journal-of-Animal-Science. 1984, 59: 2, 394-399; 14 ref. Groups of 8 pigs weighing 20.9 kg initially were given diets of maize and soyabean oilmeal, maize and groundnut oilmeal and 4 others in which groundnut oilmeal and flash-dried blood meal (FDBM) replaced soyabean oilmeal. The 6 diets were nutritionally adequate and had 0.75 and 0.60% lysine during the growing (8 weeks) and finishing (4 weeks) phases, respectively. Rate and efficiency of gain were lower in pigs given the maize-groundnut meal diet than in other groups. During the whole 12 weeks, rate and efficiency of gain were similar in pigs on the maize-soyabean oilmeal diet and on maize plus 15 to 20% groundnut oilmeal with 3 to 4% FDBM. Apparent biological value and net protein utilization were lower in pigs on the maize-groundnut oilmeal diet. Dietary treatments did not affect energy, Ca or P utilization or carcass measurements.
