Frog meal, frog wasteDescription:The frog waste by-product associated with the production of frog legs can be used as a supplemental protein source for animals. Feeding Experiments:Preliminary research has shown that frog meal is a source of protein that can be used to replace fish meal in poultry and fish diets. Gains and feed conversion were higher when frog meal was compared to fish meal in chick growth trials (1)(CAB 761443775)(Nair,1975). Performance was not affected when frog meal replace fish meal in broiler diets (8)(CAB 951401434)(Islam,1994). Frog meal gave equal or superior performance when compared to fish meal, poultry by-product meal and linseed meal when fed to catfish fry (2)(CAB N239788)(Hasan,1989). No difference is performance was observed in a 180-day growth trial when frog meal was fed to catfish and compared to fish meal(3)(CAB 931466716)(Fagbenro,1993). Frog meal was found to be an excellent supplemental protein source for feeding shrimp fry (5)(CAB 951405232)(Ranu,1993).Frog meal (0, 5, 10 %) was fed to chicks (day old to 252 days of age) and feed intake, feed conversion, gain and mortality was not found to differ from the fish meal control (4)(CAB 971406469)(Ali,1995).
