Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) in Morocco

© FAO/P.Roeder During the last weeks, the Peste des petits Runimants (PPR) appeared for the first time in Morocco. The disease has quickly expanded in the country, and on August 4th 92 outbreaks had been reported by the veterinary services of Morocco.

PPR is a viral, contagious and highly pathogenic disease that causes significant economical losses. Endemic in many sub-Saharan countries, it has recently spread in Central and Eastern Africa, Middle and Near East and several Asian countries. Its presence in Morocco represents a serious risk to the rural economy of the Kingdom, as well as for the other Maghreb countries and Southern Europe.
