eForum on provision of scientific advice (2003)
Overview
FAO/WHO established the eForum on provision of scientific advice
to promote discussion and an exchange of views between all interested parties.
The main objective was to facilitate discussion and input on the improvement
of the provision of scientific advice by FAO and WHO in terms of quality, independence,
integrity, transparency, timeliness, efficiency and sustainability of the advice.
The eForum took place between 01/10/2003 and 14/11/2003 and was
moderated and administered via LISTSERVE. During this six week period, the
eForum was successful in gaining comments, suggestions and recommendations
from a broad range of participants on key issues set out in a series of background
papers. In total 229 individuals subscribed to the eForum, with a total of
194 comments received from 54 contributors. Full details of the eForum are
included in the report. The eForum discussion was further considered at the
FAO/WHO Workshop held in January 2004.
Background papers
Ten background papers prepared for the eForum on key topics included
the selection of experts, transparency of the process and management issues.
Participants were asked to provide views on issues raised in these papers,
as well as highlighting other issues considered important in the review of
FAO/WHO scientific advice.
