Procedures
Procedures for the work of JEMRA and the process for the selection of experts are both contained in the FAO/WHO framework for the provision of scientific advice on food safety and nutrition.
The following are the core criteria used for the selection of experts:
- Technnical expertise and professional recognition - education and professional background in microbiology, epidemiology, mathematical modelling, public health, food technology, veterinary medicine, risk assessment and/or pathogen-commodity combination under consideration
- Publications in microbiology, epidemiology, mathematical modelling, public health, food technology, veterinary medicine, risk assessment and/or pathogen-commodity combination under consideration
- Ability to participate in group discussions and to draft clear and concise reports.
The AGNS food safety expert roster has been established as part of FAO's ongoing efforts to improve and strengthen procedures for the provision of scientific advice to Codex and to Member countries. This roster of experts will contribute to transparency, which is one of the guiding principles in the process of providing scientific advice. It aims to streamline the expert selection process and provide timely feedback to those interested in participating in activities related to the provision of scientific advice. The roster also aims to facilitate access to a wide range of experts and scientists in terms of technical skills, sector, geography and gender. The criteria for selection of experts will be issued together with periodic calls for experts as and when FAO requires appropriate expertise to address a specific food safety issue.
