Expert consultations
As part of its role in the provision
of scientific advice to Codex and Member Countries, expert consultations
are periodically convened to review specific pathogen-commodity risk assessments
(JEMRA),
such as viruses
in foods, or to evaluate the safety of food additives, contaminants,
naturally occurring toxicants and residues of veterinary drugs in food (JECFA).
In addition, AGNS, often in collaboration with other FAO departments and WHO,
also convenes expert and technical consultations to provide guidance and advice
to Codex and national governments on specific food safety related issues such
as animal
feed, biotechnology
(GM food), biological risk management (biosecurity), antimicrobial
resistance, and probiotics.
