About Authors

Len ‘t Mannetje received his MSc in Agricultural Science at Wageningen University, The Netherlands and his PhD from Queensland University in Australia. He spent more than 20 years in tropical grassland research with CSIRO, Australia and nearly two years with MARDI in Malaysia, before taking up a professorship in grassland science at Wageningen University. His main activities have been in research, teaching and consulting on grasslands and rangelands in tropical and temperate regions. He has published about 130 papers and edited 5 books on grassland and livestock management and research methodology, forage and animal production, degradation and improvement of grasslands, the use of legumes, grazing systems, effects of grassland and animal production on the global and local environment. He has travelled extensively for consultations and lecturing in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Yemen, Costa Rica, Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cuba, China and Hungary.He was elected Fellow of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science, Fellow of the Tropical Grassland Society of Australia and awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Debrecen, Hungary.
