Photo 2. Aerial view of the same open grassland (photo taken in 1995). The area to the right is a massive, ancient sand dune system that was cut through by the Okwa River, millions of years ago. The vegetation is a relatively evenly-spread short, open canopy woodland. There are some clumps of trees. Trees: Acacia species, Lonchocarpus nelsii, Terminalia sericea, Ochna pulchra Shrubs: Grewia species, Rhigozum brevispinosum Grasses: Stipagrostis uniplumis, Aristida species, Digitaria species. The drainage line has short, close canopy Acacia tenuispina thicket and scattered clumps of Ziziphus mucronata.
