Leguminosae

Common names

Black gidgee.

Characteristics

Small tree, dark grey, dry, furrowed and flaky bark; leaves narrow, greyish green; flowers yellow, in balls; pods narrow, produced in great profusion. This plant forms dense scrub on flood plains of the Belyando River and Torrens Creek, Queensland, where it has a good reputation as a sheep and cattle fodder. The leaves are eaten as windfalls and the pods are also readily eaten (Everist, 1969).
