Leguminosae

Common names

Yarran.

Characteristics

A tree with clean trunk and leafy head; bark dark grey, rough, finely furrowed; leaves green, narrow, usually straight; flowers yellow, in balls. There are several forms of this species in Queensland, occurring mostly in the 500- to 625-mm rainfall belt on clay and clay loams. Sometimes they form dense clumps. The leaves are eaten readily and are regarded as about equal to Acacia pendula (myall) in fodder value (Everist, 1969).
