Characteristics
Known in the Brisbane district as black wattle, a name given to other species
of Acacia in other districts. A small tree with furrowed bark; leaves green,
sickle-shaped with prominent veins, the lowermost two of which are joined
near the base; flowers yellow, in narrow spikes; pods narrow and thin, rather
curly and borne in loose bunches. The species includes many different forms
which are widespread in Queensland from the coast to more than 325 km inland,
mostly on stony or gravelly soils. It is eaten in times of scarcity but
is not of major importance as a drought fodder (Everist, 1969).
