Common names

Ironwood or ironwood wattle.

Characteristics

Tree with grey, furrowed bark and very dark, hard wood; leaves green, small but variable in shape, prominently veined; flowers in balls, very pale yellow.
Widespread in western Queensland on soils ranging from sand to clay loam. Eaten freely, but is said to cause impaction after about six weeks unless mixed with other species. Regeneration from seed is rapid if the young trees are protected from sheep (Everist, 1969).
