Common names

Gundabluey or gundabluie.

Characteristics

Large shrub or small tree, usually much branched, the fine twigs often dead at the tips; leaves green or bluish green, narrow, straight, with a prominent midrib; flowers pale yellow, in balls. Grows mainly in open grassland in the 375- to 500-mm rainfall belt from the southern border to the Barkly Tableland in Queensland. Although it does not produce any great bulk of forage, it is eaten readily and is a valuable supplement in the dry season. During a succession of very wet years it can increase to such an extent that it becomes a nuisance, particularly around watering places (Everist, 1969).
