Description:

Strong tree up to 10 m high, large top, spiny.

Distribution:

Distribution in Northeastern Argentina, Southern Bolivia, Paraguay and Western Uruguay.

Habitat:

On riversides, alkaline soils, resists drought; prefers clay soils with underground water at root level.

Use:

Fruits highly appreciated feed for cattle due to high content of carbohydrates, proteins and organic acids; also food used as flour, honey, juice; coffee-like. Used for tanning. Seeds distributed by cattle manure, scarified after passing through animal digestive tract, germinate easily.
