Description:

Perennial with stolons, up to 80 cm high at flowering.

Distribution:

South American origin with limited distribution: Southern Brazil, Eastern Argentina and Uruguay.

Habitat:

Grows on river banks, humid areas and even flooded places, tolerates sea water, flooded soils, marshes with pH 6-7; not common on drier areas. Winter-spring growth in spots; reproduces well by seeds in autumn. From sea level up to 1400 masl. Tolerates summer droughts and light frosts.

Use:

Excellent quality forage for lowlands; not domesticated.
