Tephrosia

There are some 250 species and 60 subspecies of Tephrosia in Africa (Lock, 1989), 60 species and 12 subspecies in East Africa (Gillett et al. in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, 1971), and 25 species in W Africa (Hutchinson et al., 1958). The number of species in the Sahel may be estimated around a dozen, or slightly more.
