Description

Tufted perennial 25-100 cm high. Leaf-blades flat or convolute 3-30 cm long and 2-6.5 mm wide. Inflorescence of (1-) 3-6 (-9) racemes on an axis 0-13 cm long; racemes 0.7-5.1 cm in length with triquetrous ciliate rhachis having white or yellow hairs and bearing pubescent elliptic spikelets 3.2-4.5 mm long in one row.

Habitat

Seasonally wet grassland on black heavy soil.

Altitude range

1400-2500 m.

Distribution

Kenya; also from Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of the Congo, southwards to Zimbabwe.

Use

Well grazed by stock.
