Description

Procumbent or geniculately ascending, tufted annual 20-100 cm high. Leaf-blades lanceolate, 1-15 cm long and 3-15 mm wide with cartilaginous margins. Inflorescence a false panicle of 6-15, often branched racemes on an axis 5-20 cm long: racemes l-9 cm in length with a pubescent triquetrous rhachis; the pubescent to glabrous elliptic spikelets borne on short branches or in fascicles; spikelets 1.5-2.5 mm long sometimes having a fringe of longer hairs near the tip.

Habitat

Deciduous bushland and in unsettled ground.

Altitude range

600-2000 m.

Distribution

Kenya; also from Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo to Ethiopia.

Use

Said to be good fodder; probably suitable for hay.
