Description

A wiry rambling perennial, 30-100 cm high from a knotty rootstock with tomentose basal sheaths. Leaf-blades flat lanceolate, 4-11 cm long and 3-9 mm wide with cartilaginous margins. Inflorescence of 5-10 racemes on an axis 3-10 cm long; racemes 1-5.5 cm in length with a pubescent triquetrous rhachis. Spikelets glabrous or pubescent, elliptic, 2.5-3 mm long, borne in pairs or clustered on short side branches, or singly near the raceme tip.

Habitat

Shallow rocky soils in moist places.

Altitude range

800-1900m.

Distribution

Kenya; also from Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania and Rwanda.

Use

Of no importance for grazing.
