Description

Slender geniculately ascending or sprawling annual 4-38 cm high. Leaf-blades flat, 1-13 cm long, 1.5-7 mm wide sharply acuminate. Inflorescence of 2-7, rarely more, spikes each 0.8-1.8 cm in length in a dense head. Spikelets 3-5-flowered, 4-5.2 mm long, the stout awn on the upper glume shorter or as long as the glume; anthers 0.3-0.5 mm long; grain 0.75-1.1 mm long, broadly elliptic to obovate, granular to granular-striate.

 

Habitat

Sea shore on sand and coral outcrops.

Altitude range

Sea level.

Distribution

Kenya; northwards along the coast to Sudan and eastwards to Pakistan and N.W. India.

Use

Of no significance for grazing.
