Description:

Perennial, deep rooting system, winter-spring growth, flowers in spring-summer; good seed producer.

Distribution:

Found in Eastern Argentina, Southern Brazil and Uruguay.

Habitat:

Found on slopes or stony fields and roadsides; may thrive in low fertility soils, sandy soils, sea coasts; from sea level to 300 masl. High temperatures and summer droughts cause defoliation and plants may die.

Use:

Good quality forage with 16 % protein, 0.2 % P, looked for by cattle in spite of hairiness; responds to P fertilization. In experimental plots showed slow initial growth and establishment; afterwards is resistant to low temperatures and produces abundant forage.
