Description

Diffuse herb. Leaves ovate or oblong or lanceolate, cordate at the base, 2.5 to 7.5 cm long, firm, both surfaces pale green, prominently nerved, glabrous or sparsely pubescent beneath. Racemes axillary and terminal, early four- to six-flowered. Calyx not longer than first joint of pod. Pod 1 to 2 cm long, 3 to 4 mm thick, three- to five-jointed, distinctly moniliform, glabrous or sparsely pubescent (Andrews, 1952).
Distribution
Widespread in the central Sudan (lat. 15° N) in the 300- to 400 mm. rainfall zone on deep sand and heavy clay.
Characteristics
A free seeding annual. At Redland Bay, Queensland, Australia (lat. 27°S), it produces an attractive leafy plant and seeds heavily. No feeding trials yet attempted.
