Description

Tufted perennial, 25-120 cm high. Leaf-blades flat, 5-30 cm long and 3-17 mm wide. Inflorescence of 1-10 or more racemes on an axis 0-20 cm long; racemes 1-6 cm in length with a ribbon-like rhachis 1-2.2 mm wide, this ciliate with yellow tubercle-based hairs that are 2-6 mm long. Spikelets pubescent, elliptic, 2.5-3.8 mm long, borne singly on the rhachis.

Habitat

Swamp margins and seasonally wet grassland in bushland.

Altitude range

500-2900 m.

Distribution

Kenya; also from Uganda, United republic of Tanzania, and tropical Africa.

Use

A good pasture grass.
