| Description Ascending annual, 10-100 cm high often covered in lengthy tubercle-based hairs. Leaf-blades flat setaceously acuminate, 5-22 cm long and 1-10 mm wide. Inflorescence of 3-14 racemes on an axis 3-20 cm long; racemes 1-7.8 cm in length spreading or deflexed at maturity with a triquetrous rhachis. Spikelets glabrous, elliptic 2-3.5 mm long borne in pairs without a stipe but with a distinct internode (0.2-0.5 mm long) between the upper and lower glumes. Habitat Dry grassland on rocky ground. Altitude range 0-1800 m. Distribution Kenya; also from Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Chad to Saudi Arabia, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mozambique. Use Provides useful seasonal grazing in arid and semi-arid areas. |
