Description

Tufted perennial, with slender but stiff culms 30-120 cm high ascending from knotty rootstock. Leaf-blades flat, lanceolate 5-15 cm long and 8-20 mm wide. Inflorescence of 2-4 racemes on an axis 3-7 cm long; racemes 2-5 cm in length with a villous triquetrous rhachis. Spikelets sparsely pubescent, elliptic, 7-8.5 mm long, borne in loose pairs (one pair on a long pedicel), with a stipe 0.5-1 mm long.

 

Habitat

Coastal bushland.

Altitude range

0-30 m.

Distribution

Kenya; not known elsewhere.

Use

Palatable grass.
