Field Food Crops

Welcome to the Field Food Crop Group (FFCG)

In this Group we support the efforts of national programmes to improve sustainable production of food crops. Our aim is to increase food security and alleviate poverty by introducing improved crop-production technologies to farmers and by promoting appropriate policies that help them adopt new technologies. We give support and guidance to national research and extension services. We give special attention to cereals, such as rice, maize, wheat, and sorghum, and also to various food legumes, as well as to the development of promising 'orphan crops' for wider diversification. We also promote integrated crop management systems especially for major agro-ecological zones and address technical issues related to production systems.
